Rowhouse, Townhouse & Whole-Home Moving in DC
Residential moving in the District is its own discipline. I’m Damon Whitfield, and after fifteen years running Mercy Movers I can tell you the houses themselves are most of the job. A 3-bedroom rowhouse on Capitol Hill is not the same lift as a 3-bedroom split-level in Bethesda, and the quote should reflect that.

- Petworth and Brookland bungalows — narrow front steps, basements with bulkhead doors.
- Bethesda and Silver Spring single-family — longer driveways, attached garages, basement gyms.
How we quote a whole home
I walk the house room by room (in person or by video), inventory the furniture, and write a binding flat rate. The number is built around three things: how much is going, how far it is going, and how hard the access is on both ends. Stoops, stairs and freight-elevator windows add real labor — they get itemized so you can see them, not buried in a fudge factor.

- Floor and stair runners across marble stoops, hardwood, and rowhouse staircases
- Disassembly and reassembly of beds, dining tables, sectionals, IKEA wardrobes and Peloton
- Crating quotes on heirlooms, marble tops and large mirrors before move day, not on the truck
- Furniture pads stay on the pieces overnight when there is a one-day delay between load and unload
