Northeast DC — from NoMa towers to the Brookland bungalows

Northeast is the quadrant that has changed the fastest in my fifteen-plus years running Mercy Movers. When I started in 2010, NoMa was mostly parking lots. Now it’s glass towers with strict COI windows, and a few blocks east the H Street corridor runs from the streetcar tracks out to the Atlas District. We move all of it with our own trucks and uniformed crew — no broker hand-off, no "matched carrier" routing.

Northeast neighborhoods we cover

  • NoMa — high-rise condos and luxury rentals along First Street NE; freight-elevator windows are short and strict.
  • H Street NE — narrow rowhouses, streetcar wires, and tight curb cuts near the Atlas Theater.
  • Brookland — wide-lot bungalows and Craftsman homes near Catholic University with actual driveways.
  • Trinidad & Eckington — flipped rowhomes, English-basement units, and alley-access garages.

How we plan a Northeast move

Two real constraints shape every NE job: the US-50 / New York Ave traffic and the building paperwork on the NoMa side. Curtis on dispatch starts loads early, and Imani files COIs naming the property manager and the building’s umbrella carrier. For a one-bedroom on H Street we’ll typically send two movers and a 16-foot truck; a Brookland whole-home gets three movers and a 26-footer.

What I write into your quote

The flat price goes on paper before we load. If the elevator gets blocked by another tenant and we sit for forty minutes, that’s on us — not added to your bill. Need a building-specific walk-through? Start with the apartment and high-rise service page, or look at our other DC service areas.

Questions we hear from this block

Can you stage a truck near New York Ave during rush hour?
Yes — Curtis on dispatch routes Northeast jobs around the US-50 / New York Ave crunch. We start NoMa and H Street loads early, before the morning Beltway traffic builds into the District.
Do you handle the freight elevators at NoMa buildings?
Every week. We pre-file the COI naming the building's management company, reserve the freight elevator window, and protect lobby floors and elevator pads ourselves rather than relying on building staff.
Are H Street and Trinidad rowhomes a problem for a 26-footer?
Some blocks yes, especially around the streetcar line and the alley-access rowhomes off Bladensburg. We'll shuttle in a 16-foot box truck when the curb cuts and trolley wires make a big truck unsafe, and the flat rate I quote already covers it.
How it works

How a DC move with our crew comes together

1

Send both ZIPs and a target date

The address you’re leaving, the one you’re landing in, and the size of the home — under a minute, nothing owed.

2

Read one flat DC figure in writing

A single locked number lands back — no hourly clock ticking on the crew while they work the stoop.

3

Our uniformed DC crew rolls in

W-2 movers in our own trucks arrive on schedule and run the whole job from first box to last.
