Apartment, Condo & High-Rise Moving in DC
Roughly half of what Mercy Movers does in any given week is apartment work, and DC apartment work has a personality. The Wharf and Navy Yard high-rises want a COI on file before they will release the freight. Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan walk-ups have no elevator at all — four flights, narrow turn at the landing, painted stair treads that scuff if you breathe on them. We run all of it.
The DC apartment buildings we move every week
- Wharf / SW Waterfront high-rises — strict COI, 2-hour freight windows, dock parking only.
- Navy Yard / Capitol Riverfront — same playbook, plus concierge sign-in.
- Dupont Circle & Adams Morgan walk-ups — 4-5 story, no elevator, painted plaster stairs.
- Mt. Vernon Triangle & NoMa mid-rises — freight elevator, dock, COI standard.
- U Street & Columbia Heights condos — pop-up additions, mid-rise freight.
What it costs to move a DC apartment
| Apartment | Crew & truck | Typical flat rate |
|---|---|---|
| Studio inside DC | 2 movers ($169/hr) | $489 – $635 |
| 1-bedroom walk-up (Dupont / Adams Morgan) | 2-3 movers | $685 – $935 |
| 2-bedroom Wharf or Navy Yard high-rise | 3 movers ($219/hr) | $1,140 – $1,485 |
| 2-bedroom Columbia Heights condo | 3 movers | $985 – $1,335 |
All quotes are binding flat-rate, written before we load. Walk-up surcharges are baked in — no day-of surprise — and we add a mover for buildings without an elevator above the 3rd floor. We are licensed and insured: DC moving license plus US DOT and MC authority on file, with up to $1,000,000 cargo coverage per shipment optional.
Heading from a downtown high-rise to a single-family across the river? See Arlington moving service, or browse all DC neighborhoods and DMV suburbs we cover. If the building needs office-style hours (after-5 freight access), our commercial moving crew can flex into that window.
