How to use this calculator
Pick your home size, your pickup neighborhood and your destination. The calculator gives you a starting cost band based on Mercy Movers’ current published rates: $169 per hour for 2 movers and a truck, or $219 per hour for 3 movers and a truck on local DC and DMV work. Long-distance bands come from the same flat-rate logic we use on every job.
What the calculator can’t see (yet)
- Whether your Capitol Hill stoop has eight steps or fourteen
- Whether your Wharf or Navy Yard building requires a reserved freight elevator window
- How tight the alley behind your Georgetown townhouse is
- Whether you’ve got a piano, a 1,200-pound gun safe, or a marble dining top
- Whether you want full packing, partial packing, or you’re packing yourself
Those are the variables a walk-through nails down. The calculator gets you close; the walk-through gets you exact.

Tips that move the number
- Mid-month, mid-week, off-season moves price better than the last weekend of the month. Federal-PCS season (summer) is our busiest stretch — book earlier.
- Self-pack the books and kitchen if budget matters; have us do full-service packing for fragile-only.
- Reserve the elevator yourself at the destination if your building allows it — saves us standing time.

Your real binding flat rate turns on the actual inventory, the stoops, stairs and freight-elevator rules at both ends, and the miles on the truck — a Dupont walk-up and a four-bedroom Bethesda colonial land in very different tiers.
