Southeast and Southwest DC — Capitol Hill, the Wharf, Navy Yard, and east of the river

This is the part of the District I grew up in. I’m Damon, and before I started Mercy Movers in 2010 I lived between Capitol Hill and Anacostia. The SE/SW quadrants are two completely different moving worlds glued together — and we handle both with our own W-2 crew and our own trucks.

SE/SW neighborhoods we cover

  • Capitol Hill — 1880s-1910s brick rowhouses with steep marble stoops and narrow Victorian staircases, plus English-basement units.
  • Navy Yard / Capitol Riverfront — newer glass high-rises with strict COI windows and dock reservations.
  • The Wharf (SW Waterfront) — luxury high-rises with timed loading-dock windows and reserved freight elevators.
  • Anacostia & Congress Heights — single-family homes, rowhouses, and townhomes east of the river.

What makes SE/SW different

On the Hill we send three movers and stair rollers from the start — those marble stoops eat amateur crews alive. At the Wharf and Navy Yard the work shifts to paperwork: certificate of insurance naming the building, freight-elevator reservation, dock-parking confirmation. Imani handles all of it from our office. See our rowhouse and whole-home service for Hill homes, or Capitol Hill if that’s your neighborhood.

The price is locked before we load

Whether it’s a Hill English basement or a 12th-floor Wharf condo, your flat rate goes on paper before the truck rolls. No hourly drift, no add-ons. Navy Yard page is here.

Questions we hear from this block

How do you handle Capitol Hill rowhouse stairs?
Marcus, one of my crew chiefs, runs Hill jobs almost exclusively. Steep marble stoops, narrow Victorian staircases, and English-basement units are his bread and butter — we use stair rollers, hump-straps, and extra blankets, and we always pre-walk the staircase before quoting.
What does a Wharf or Navy Yard high-rise move involve?
A COI filed 48 hours ahead, a reserved freight-elevator window, dock-parking confirmation, and elevator pads we install ourselves. Imani in the office handles every piece of that paperwork — it's not on you.
Do you move into Anacostia and Congress Heights?
Absolutely. I'm from this side of the river. We move across the Anacostia in both directions every week and price it the same as any other DC quadrant.
How it works

How a DC move with our crew comes together

1

Send both ZIPs and a target date

The address you’re leaving, the one you’re landing in, and the size of the home — under a minute, nothing owed.

2

Read one flat DC figure in writing

A single locked number lands back — no hourly clock ticking on the crew while they work the stoop.

3

Our uniformed DC crew rolls in

W-2 movers in our own trucks arrive on schedule and run the whole job from first box to last.
