District housing is old, narrow and stacked — original hardwood, plaster walls, narrow row-house staircases, marble stoops, and Mid-Atlantic snow, ice and salt tracked in off the sidewalk. Floor and wall protection comes off the truck before a single box does.
Quilted moving blankets
Every dresser, table and headboard is wrapped in a heavy padded blanket and cinched tight before it leaves the room.
Shrink-wrap & stretch film
Stretch film locks drawers, doors and sectional cushions shut and seals upholstery off from salt, slush and rain on the sidewalk.
Floor & doorway armor
Runners go down across the carry path and padded guards onto every jamb, so original heart-pine floors and plaster trim never take a scuff.
Custom crating on site
Mirrors, glass tabletops, framed art, flat-screens and embassy-grade pieces ride in crates we cut on site, corners braced and padded.
Disassemble & reassemble
Beds, sectionals, dining tables and IKEA wardrobes come apart for the ride and go back together — every bolt accounted for — at the new place.

Dispatcher Curtis Banner rings ahead with a tight arrival window, so you are not stuck guessing when the truck turns the corner onto your block.
Walk-through with the chief
The crew chief goes room to room with you, flags what loads, calls out the narrow turns and the staircase, and sets the carry order.
Wrap, pad & protect
Furniture is blanketed and shrink-wrapped, runners roll out across hardwood, jamb guards go on doorways, and the stoop gets matted.
Built to ride tight
Weight goes low and snug, every piece tied to the wall of the truck — nothing shifts on a Beltway pothole or a long-haul Interstate pull.

I’m Damon — born and raised in the District
I’m Damon Whitfield, and Mercy Movers is mine. I grew up between Anacostia and Capitol Hill, spent years as a logistics coordinator running facility moves for a federal contractor, and started this company in 2010 on a single rule: the flat price gets signed in writing before the truck leaves our yard. Office manager Imani Reeves handles your COIs and building paperwork, dispatcher Curtis Banner runs the daily truck board, and crew chiefs Andre Whitlock, Devon Carney and Marcus Otieno lead the trucks. Every mover on payroll is W-2 and background-checked — no day labor, no subcontractors, no broker work.
