Mercy Movers worked the Shaw blocks before the U Street rebuild really took off. The neighborhood has changed, but the housing stock hasn’t: narrow late-1800s rowhomes, English-basement rentals, and a lot of pop-up third-floor additions that came in during the renovation wave.
How we run a Shaw move
Shaw is a planning job for two reasons: street life and street parking.
- U Street is loud day and night, especially Thursday-to-Sunday. We try to finish before the dinner crowd hits.
- Street parking off 9th, 11th, and Florida Avenue is tight; our office pulls a DDOT temp permit a few days ahead.
- Pop-up third floors add a flight — we staff for it instead of charging by surprise.
- Howard University semester turnover (August and May) packs the calendar; book early.

- Blankets, shrink-wrap, dollies, hand trucks, mattress bags, TV boxes
- Floor runners on every staircase landing
- Stoop pads and banister wrap on original woodwork
- COI to any building manager who needs one
Where Shaw clients move next
